Tai Chi for Welfare
Meet the 60+ group practicing the ancient art of Tai Chi in the Ex-Mining village of Wheatly Hill, County Durham.
Every Thursday morning 74 year old retiree John Worthington gets out of bed at 8am to get ready to start the Tai Chi class at 10:30am. He first started Tai Chi 5 years ago due to a recommendation from a health practitioner, this was due to his many years playing rugby and working when he was younger.
He also had had an interest in the martial art for a number of years’ prior him starting this class. As the director of the community centre he does the Tai Chi class voluntarily, a £2 donation from each member of the class goes towards the upkeep of the centre.
